Clinical Aspects of Intractable Asthma

Abstract
It is a general observation that asthma bronchiale especially intractable asthma seems to be a quite complicated and unsoluble disease in most part of the world.
Authors attempted to carry out a series of clinical investigation of intractable asthma cases who was admitted to chest medical department, the National Medical Center during the last seven years from 1967 to 1972 and result are as follow:
1. The subjects were 93 asthma cases (54 male and 39 female) among them 47 cases (27 male and 20 female) were intractable asthma cases.
2. The peak incidence of intractable asthma were 30 years of age group and the sex distribution were no big differences.
3. The duration of symptoms were prolonged and 27.7 per cent of total cases had more than 10 years of asthma history.
4. Asthmatic attack occurred mostly at night and in the early morning between 4 to 7 o¢¥clock, also symptoms were perennially.
5. Dyspnea, cough and expectoration were the most frequent initial symptoms.
6. The complication were pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis and spontaneous pneumothorax.
